Selling Your Car Online? Take Great Photos

Selling your car online is fast becoming a popular choice. #1 Get your car ready for its photoshoot

Before you check the light and your camera settings, it needs a wash, polish and vacuum (as well as getting rid of any leftover takeaway boxes and kids stuff strewn on the backseat). As with any photoshoot, lighting is crucial. With your car’s reflective surfaces, bright sunlight is not ideal and it will also make your car looked harsh and washed out – not the best first impression. Early morning, when the sunlight is softer and gentler, or a slightly cloudy day will show off your car’s colouring and lines in its best light.  

#3 Right Angles

Photographing a car does not follow the same principles as photographing a person. When selling your car online, you want to take photos of EVERY angle. Buyers are looking for details and they want to see your car from the front, the back and the side. Fill the frame and you can always crop afterwards.

#4 Background check

You are looking to sell your car – not your garage workbench or the pile of junk in your backyard. You don’t need to take your car to some remote location, but a neutral background setting is best so that your car can be the hero. Another tip is to use the selective focus setting to make sure your car is sharp in the foreground and the background blurs into the background (literally). 

#5 Show off

What does your car have that the thousand of others online don’t? This is your one chance to make an exceptional first impression so show off your car’s best features. We’re talking navigation systems, leather seats, sound systems and cool mags. Make sure you get them all on camera. Buyers love a little something extra.
